from articles appearing in the Beaver County Times with a "byline"
by Jim Tripodi of the Times Staff, November 6, 1973

Searching old newspaper clippings can sometimes lead to long forgotten events that were big enough to "make the papers". One such event occured on the night of November 5, 1973 in an area of Midland, Pennsylvania.
Pittsburgh is southeast of the area shown on the map. Newcastle is to the north.

An object was observed by an estimated 100 people who reported seeing a disc chaped object flying or hovering over the towns of Industry, Ohioville, and Midland in the early evening.

This in itself was a very well substantiated event with many witnesses over several nights. What made this event different was the report of a Midland woman who reportedly saw a creature that "didn't look like your average, everyday homo sapien". Her description closely matched other reports that had been made by the residents of Westmoreland County, PA in late summer and early fall. Her description followed the the earlier descriptions of a "bigfoot" type creature, .........except this one had large three toed feet.

Even more impressive was the photograph of the footprint included in the news article reported in the Beaver County Times in its November 6th issue.

Following are the news articles that appeared. The first is from the evening of 11/5 when the initial observations of the craft were made. As can be seen, these sightings were attempted to be explained away as "reflections". Sighting reports would continue to accrue during the coming days.

This is followed by the article appearing on the 6th which described the investigation in detail as it continued for the next several days . Robert Boyde, of the Westmoreland County UFO Study Group was present and contributed to the accounts of evidence collected and research included in the article.Note the headline; adding a hint of mockery to the article.

A compelling account based on the number of witnesses and the extent of the investigation.

Watch for more news articles from the past.
