While helping to staff our group's display booth at a UFO Expo, numerous people would walk up and relate some event that appeared in
some way to be associated with the UFO phenomenon. The stories varied in scope. Such stories abound. Unfortunately, they seldom
surface unless a suitable, acceptable environment is available, leaving many stories forever untold to anyone outside of the experiencers
immediate families. The following account was the result of simply speaking with a co-worker about the UFO phenomenon who then
related the story to me as it was told to her.
The story teller was a co-worker of mine and a niece of three of the women to whom this experience happened. She is a highly reputable
woman who works actively as a social worker in a local governmental agency. She has a passing interest in the subject of UFOs, but has
read little about it. She communicates with her aunts frequently via the telephone and was able to obtain corroborating accounts from each.
The three aunts were aged 54, 57, and early 60's at the time of the event, December 4, 1993. They are African-American. They had
gathered in Macon, Georgia to attend the funeral of a cousin. Two lived in Georgia, while one lives in New York. A friend of one of the
ladies from Georgia was driving the car when the event happened. They were returning to Macon from Dublin on Interstate 16. The
weather was drizzly and the darkness of evening was slowly descending. Traffic was quite light with only an occasional car seen
proceeding in either direction on the divided highway.
As they drove along, their car was suddenly enveloped by a thick fog described as being "like milk" which totally obscured visibility of the
road. The driver immediately applied the breaks bringing the car to a rapid stop. The car's engine and electrical system then failed. The
interior of the car became totally dark. One aunt stated, "You couldn't see your hands in front of your face." Then two distinct bumps were
felt. One aunt said it felt as if something had grabbed ahold of the car. Another became fearful that the car had rolled into a roadside ditch.
Anxiety by this time had overcome all of the occupants of the car, resulting in loud vocal prayers being uttered to the Lord to release them
from whatever was happening to them. Minutes later, the fog dissipated. They found the car sitting motionless in the highway's right hand
lane. It was completely dark and they found the sky clear and star studded, with the moon glowing brightly above them.
The driver restarted the car which seemed to operate normally. The women proceeded on their way. After a few minutes the driver, who
had lived in the area all her life, found that she was lost and had not come upon the exits that were supposed to be ahead. She had to drive
for an hour before finding a familiar exit, ultimately proceeding to their destination in Macon. This was highly disturbing to the driver. She
related having to spend the night at her daughter's home after not being able to sleep at her own home because of feeling anxious about the
experience.
No one related seeing anything unusual during the experience except the fog. None of the participants has chosen to probe into the details
of the experience. They are reluctant to talk about it to this day. The aunt from New York has always been especially sensitive about the
experience, leaving the room if the family discussions turn to the event, or to UFOs and ETs. She perceives the event as being the result of
"them" trying to come and get her. She in uncertain why she interprets the event in this way and she doesn't know who the "them" are.
Another of the aunts is more willing to discuss the experience, but has no explanation for it. When she sees people interviewed on
television who claim to have been abducted, she is surprised when they are not believed because she somehow knows that their experiences
are real,
After several years, all involved continue to maintain that this experience was real. None have reported prior or subsequent events of a
similar nature.
